My recent work has focussed on the land beneath our feet, the geological and geomorphological processes – erosion, accretion, rocks cracking, rivers flowing – that determine not only the landscape we see but also how and where we live.

Originally training as a landscape architect, I have pursued parallel careers in landscape conservation and art, each informing the other. My art work explores the nature of our environment, how we experience it, and our relationship with it.

My recent work has focussed on the land beneath our feet, the geological and geomorphological processes – erosion, accretion, rocks cracking, rivers flowing – that determine not only the landscape we see but also how and where we live.

Much can be read from looking at the ways in which man has marked, moved and constructed the fragile surface, and aerial views enable us to look at the evidence of those activities, and to see connections and consequences.

Current work focusses on shorelines, those indeterminate boundaries where materials get washed up and stranded, and then washed away again, never stable, constantly shifting.

I enjoy allowing processes and materials to determine images, working with a wide range of materials including collage, printmaking and drawing. I have always valued the process of drawing – it’s about looking, understanding what is there in front of me, exploring, selecting, being engrossed.

My work has featured twice on the big screen ‘Not the Hockney’ in central Bradford, and in 2019 two of my drawings were ‘Highly commended’ in the Bradford Open. I regularly hold solo exhibitions in Unit 9 at South Square, Thornton, Bradford.
